with Residents and Family

Presented by - Mary Blanchett, LNHA

Thursday - October 14, 2010 | 1:00-3:00 PM EST

Residents and Family, Our Other Team Members - Presented by Mary Blanchett

This webinar will help participants develop an understanding of the legal, professional and personal challenges facing long term care facilities when residents are faced with important issues concerning their ongoing care or end-of-life issues.

Participants will learn why it is essential to have residents and families involved in patient care, and gain an understanding of how the inclusion of family enhances a resident’s quality of life. Attendees will also review the Federal Regulations requiring the full engagement of residents and their families as part of a care-giving team.

The seminar includes lecture, slides and interactive communication through polls, comments and questions. Participants have an opportunity to engage interactively by answering poll questions addressing ways to include and increase resident and family participation.

Upon completion participants will be better informed about how to involve residents and family according to Federal Regulation and best practices.

Methodology
This interactive live webinar will present participants with 10 different resident scenarios followed by questions to demonstrate audience understanding. Each scenario will address one or more regulations including: Surrogate designation, clear communication,  right to advance directives, services not covered under Medicare, notification on change in condition, updating contact information, visitation, room sharing, transfer and discharges,  managing behaviors, maintaining resident dignity, accommodating resident’s needs and preferences, personal property, providing a homelike environment, family councils and team approach for comprehensive assessment and care plan development.
