New Online Tool to Improve Hospice Quality Reporting

measurementKentucky-based Deyta, LLC recently developed a web-based reporting tool that will help hospice organizations identify key patient care quality issues and prepare for the mandatory quality reporting period for hospices set forth by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The Voluntary Structural Measure Reporting Program, which is available free of charge for hospice organizations nationwide, was developed in collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and utilizes the same format as the CMS Hospice Quality Reporting Data Entry Site.

According to Deyta, CMS finalized a voluntary quality reporting period for hospices to precede the mandatory reporting period for the fiscal year 2014 payment determination. The new tool was designed to help improve hospice quality reporting and can be used by any hospice organization interested in participating in the voluntary initiative.

In their online FAQ document Deyta states the information submitted during the voluntary reporting period will not affect any annual payment updates but rather serve to inform the future development of the quality reporting program and permit CMS to understand the current state of QAPI programs in hospices across the nation in order to enhance the quality reporting program for subsequent years.

The VSMRP database contains hundreds of hospice quality indicators along with information about each indicator. The goal is to save hospices the time and effort involved with locating the specifics of each indicator, and those who participate will receive a data summary report from Deyta. To learn more, visit:
