The goal of this course is to provide health professionals with dietary guidelines for individuals with bowel and urinary diversions, including good eating habits to follow and ways to address dietary intolerances and potential problems associated with specific ostomies.

 
To educate healthcare professionals caring for terminally ill patients in matters of communicating with patients and families based on their needs and coping styles. This information will be useful when talking to terminally ill patients and their families when the patient can no longer tolerate nourishment. In 1997 the Balanced Budget Act, Section 4432 (a), mandated implementation of a Medicare prospective payment system for all skilled nursing facilities (SNF) beginning July 1,  1998.
