| Description | This course will explain the purpose and provisions of the new HIPAA laws. The student will learn to recognize Protected Health Information (PHI) and identify ways to act in compliance with HIPAA laws. Possible situations will be given and the student will learn ways to handle them correctly. The result of breaking HIPAA laws will be discussed. |
| Learning Objectives |
- Define HIPAA, the purpose and provisions.
- Define PHI and other confidential and sensitive information.
- State when PHI can be used. Identify ways to act in compliance with HIPAA.
- Demonstrate steps to take and on-going actions to remain in compliance with HIPAA.
- Identify the risks to ePHI and how to protect it and state the purpose of the Red Flags Rule.
- Identify possible situations and how to handle them. Describe the result of breaking HIPAA.
